About the Week-Long Event

At this year’s Plein Air Invitational, 20 invited artists from Hawaiʻi and the continental USA will come together to showcase their plein air painting techniques throughout the week. All pieces created during the event are for sale exclusively at The Village Gallery, 1191 Honoapiilani Hwy. in Lahaina.

We invite the public to attend three live painting demonstrations, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to experience these talented artists creating pieces in real time, and in the open air.

The week concludes with the presentation of awards and a Gala Sale at Village Gallery Lahaina.

A portion of the net proceeds will benefit the Lahaina Restoration Foundation, supporting its ongoing efforts to preserve and rebuild Lahaina’s historic sites.

Inspired by the island’s immense beauty and spirit of aloha, Maui has long been a haven for artists. Blessed with year round weather conducive to painting outdoors, there has been a rich history of plein air painters in Hawaii.

Populated with both artists and art galleries, Maui is an art destination that attracts enthusiasts and collectors.

Paint Maui Plein Air Invitational 2026 is a Plein Air Invitational event that is sponsored by Village Gallery Lahaina, the Hyatt Regency, Cake Media Maui, Haleakala Ranch, Martin & MacArthur, Laurie McCray and the Fred KenKnight Family.

Consisting of 20 invited artists from the islands and the Continental US, it is organized in a familiar style of plein air events that are held across the country, while maintaining the local flavor of aloha found in Hawaii.

Our emphasis is on a relaxed fun event for all involved. Village Gallery Lahaina, with over 50 years in operation in Lahaina, is reopening in a new location after the devastating loss of their gallery in the August 2023 wildfire is the perfect venue for our art sales.

The volunteers also helping to support this event are the best you’ll find anywhere— and of course, there is no shortage of spectacular subject matter to paint.

Gallery Show and Awards

at Village Gallery Lahaina

All paintings by the 2026 participating invitational artists will be available for purchase beginning Saturday, February 14 at 12:00 p.m., exclusively at Village Gallery.

Join us at Village Gallery Lahaina, now at its new location at 1911 Honoapiilani Highway (next to the Bank of Hawaii), on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 4:45 p.m. for a traditional Hawaiian blessing, followed by the Gala and Awards Ceremony celebrating the week-long event.

Sales of pieces created during the event will take place at Village Gallery from Saturday, February 14 at 12:00 p.m. through Sunday, February 22 at 12:00 p.m.
